Spire – Legal Siri Port for iPhone 4, 3GS & iPod Touch 4G & 3G

Until now we have seen several developers clamming to be working on siri port for older iphones running iOS 5, unfortunately most of them are turned out to be fake. The few developers like Steve Troughton-Smith who actually ported to iPhone 4 restrained from releasing to public because of copyright issue as the Siri code was extracted from iPhone 4S and it can’t be distributed without Apple’s permission.

Another issue with Siri port on older devices is authorization part which is required in order to Siri to communicate with Apple server. Unfortunately until iPhone 4S jailbreak is released we have to rely on SiriProxy hacks which is only possible if you legally own iPhone 4S.

Thanks to Apple for unencrypted iOS 5.0.1 firmware, Chpwn has managed to get the workaround to legally download Siri code from Apple serve. Chpwn and Ryan  Petrich has developed a new tool called Spire which will install Siri on unsupported jailbroken devices such as, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G, iPad 1 & iPad 2. Spire is available in cydia for download.

Do make sure you are on Wifi while installing Spire as it will download additional 100 Mb of data from Apple server (Siri Code). However Spire is far from complete solution, it still requires authorization to use Siri. If you own an iPhone 4S then you can get information required for authorization fairly easily.

You can also setup Siri Proxy and enter the address of your proxy server in Spire that way can prevent directing all the traffic through a specific proxy server. But getting siri proxy will be still big hurdle and only way to get is either you own iPhone 4S or ask your friend who owns iPhone 4S.

We might see pay to use Siri Proxy list very soon, so it would be wise if first two options are not available for you then wait for such paid siri proxies. Or if you are one of enthusiast who can work with Chrome Speech APIs then tweaking Siri code to parse request & results is the way to go. You work can benefit to millions of users who want to use Siri speech assistant on their iOS devices.
