How to Jailbreak iOS 6.0.1 Tethered on iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G


iOS 6.0.1 was released few days back, though not major release but it does comes with lots of improvements and bug fixes.  We have already published step by step guide on how to update iOS 6.0.1 on iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. Thanks to Geohot’s limera1n exploit alltheA4 devices are jailbreaked for life. So if you own iPhone 4 or iPod Touch 4G then you can get your iOS device jailbreaked on iOS 6.0.1. But keep in mind this is tethered jailbreak and it may take longer than you may expect for iOS 6.0.1 untethered jailbreak release.

Required Stuff

Redsn0w 0.9.15b3

iOS 6.0 (IPSW ) Firmware File

How to Jailbreak iOS 6.0.1 Tethered on iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G

1. Make sure you have updated your iPhone 4/iPod Touch 4G to iOS 6.0.1

2. Now Start Redsn0w 0.9.15b3

3. Click on Extras Button and click on Select IPSW

4. Now browse and select iOS 6.0 firmware file respective to your device

5. Click on Open and click on OK, when Redsn0w identifies the iOS build information

6. Now click on back button and press jailbreak button

7. Let Redsn0w prepare for jailbreak data

8. At this stage Redsn0w 0.9.15b3 will present you with jailbreak options, chose relevant options and click on next button

9. Now connect your device to PC or Mac and turn off and press next button

10. Follow on screen instructions to put your device in DFU Mode.

11. Once your device is in DFU mode, Redsn0w will start exploiting, uploading ramdisk and will continue with the rest of the jailbreak procedure.

12. At this stage your will the message that jailbreak is tethered jailbreak and you will need to tethered boot every time you plan to restart your iPhone or iPod Touch. The rest of the jailbreak process will continue on your iPhone/iPod Touch.

13. Once your iPhone 4/iPod Touch 4G reboots your device will be jailbroken on iOS 6.0.1 however you won’t find Cydia after the jailbreak process and for that you need to tethered boot using Redsn0w 0.9.15b3.

How to Tethered Boot after iOS 6.0.1 Jailbreak

1. Start Redsn0w 0.9.015b3 and click on Extras button

2. Now use Select IPSW  option and browse and select iOS 6.0

3. Click on Open and Redsn0w will identify the firmware build.

4. Now click on Just Boot option.

5. Connect your iPhone 4/iPod Touch 4G to PC or Mac and turn off

6. Now follow on screen instructions to put device in DFU mode

7. Once your iOS device is in DFU mode, Redsn0w will start exploiting and you will notice pwnapple logo on your Device screen.

8. Once your iPhone/iPod Touch reboots you will have Cydia installed.

That’s it . Now enjoy your newly jailbroken iPhone 4 on iOS 6.0.1 and iPod Touch 4G on iOS 6.0.1. Unlockers do no update to iOS 6.0.1. Must use Preserve baseband option if you want to retain your unlock.
