iPhone 5 Purple Haze Issue Resolved By Support Document Released By Apple

Apple was continuously receiving complaints regarding the purple haze appearing in a side of iPhone 5 camera snaps. Apart from that, people were also discussing on forums and blogs and trying to fix this issue. At last Apple jump in and shared a quick fix and also explained the reason of that purple light. Symptoms A purplish or other colored flare, haze, or spot is imaged from out-of-scene bright light sources during still image or video capture.

Resolution Most small cameras, including those in every generation of iPhone, may exhibit some form of flare at the edge of the frame when capturing an image with out-of-scene light sources. This can happen when a light source is positioned at an angle (usually just outside the field of view) so that it causes a reflection off the surfaces inside the camera module and onto the camera sensor. Moving the camera slightly to change the position at which the bright light is entering the lens, or shielding the lens with your hand, should minimize or eliminate the effect.


It is not an issue of just iPhone 5, rest of iPhone models are also showing a haze in snaps, but that is not purple, in most cases, it is pink and appears in the center of image. So it is quite possible that the reason of issue in iPhone 5 and other models may be different.

We think that the reason of purple haze in iPhone 5 must be the sapphire glass protecting the camera which is one of other specialties of this model of iPhone.

Important point to keep in mind that the scratches issue which leads the foxconn employees to protest and this purple haze issue didn’t effect the initial sale and Apple generated record revenue by iPhone 5.
