iOS 6 3D Maps and Turn By Turn Navigation Ported to iPhone 4, 3GS and iPod Touch 4G
At WWDC 2012 Apple announced the new iOS 6 and its new features. However from the list of features mentioned at WWDC 2012 keynote not all will be available for every supported device list. For example the new iOS 6 3D map feature along with turn by turn navigation is only available to iPhone 4S and iPad 2 and later device. That means iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS will be missing this feature.
We can agree with Apple that 3D maps feature is resources intensive and A4 devices couldn’t handle that but turn by turn navigation should be made available for A4 devices. Well do not worry when we have most talented jailbreak community. Folks at iGuides has published the success of Russian hackers in porting 3D maps with turn by turn navigation for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS.

Though the process of getting 3D maps on iPhone 4/3GS is not easy one but not impossible makes it even more interesting and exciting. Those who are geek and comfortable at tinkering with their iOS device can proceed with following guide on how to install 3D maps on iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS. 3D maps did in fact worked on our good old iPod Touch 4G, so this guide also holds true to install 3D maps on iPod Touch 4G too.
In order to install 3D Enabler deb you must be connected to wifi network and know the ip address of your iOS device.
How to Install 3D Maps and Turn by Turn Navigation of iOS 6 on iPhone 4, 3GS and iPod Touch 4G
3. SSH into your iPhone 4/3GS using Putty utility
(Username root and password alpine)
And type following commands
apt-get install mobilesubstrate
4. Now download WinSCP on Windows or CyberDuck on Mac.
5. FTP to your iOS device
6. Copy com.alpden.3denabler_1.0_iphoneos-arm.deb to /var/mobile
7. Go back to your SSH terminal and type following command
dpkg -i com.alpden.3denabler_1.0_iphoneos-arm.deb
and wait for installation to complete
That’s it now respring or reboot your iOS device and start map app and you will notice new 3D tab at the bottom of Map, tap on it and enjoy 3D maps of iOS 6 on iPhone 4, 3GS and iPod Touch 4G.
